Ocean Wave Feature Wall - A Surf-Inspired Statement Wall

This project started with a simple idea: bring the feeling of the ocean into the home.

The customer is passionate about surfing and wanted something much more personal than a standard feature wall. The brief was to create a dramatic ocean scene with crashing waves and the feeling of being out on the water, while often working from home.

After discussing the idea and looking at the available wall space, we went for a layered ocean design using different shades of blue, turquoise and darker tones to create depth. The waves were painted with contrasting highlights and movement to give the wall a more dynamic, almost three-dimensional appearance.

The most unusual part of the project was the addition of specialist glow-in-the-dark paint. Selected areas of the wave design were finished with the specialist paint so that, once the room becomes dark, parts of the artwork take on a completely different appearance.

During normal daylight, the wall works as a bold ocean-themed feature. In low light, the hidden glowing elements begin to appear, creating a subtle night-time effect inspired by the way waves and sea spray can glow in certain natural conditions.

The wall required careful preparation before the artwork could begin. The surface was made ready for the decorative finish, with each colour and layer applied carefully to build up the final effect rather than simply applying one flat colour.

The finished wall gives the room two different characters. A bright, energetic ocean scene during the day and a more atmospheric glowing effect at night.

For a customer who loves surfing, the result was more than simply decorating a wall. It became a personalised piece of artwork and a feature that reflects their passion for the sea.
